Manic Monday - Yoshi San reports in from Japan
It’s super hot in Japan right now with August hitting 34-38C every day except the back country mountain rivers and streams. I visited central Japan Nagano prefecture and the target species were native Japanese Char and landlocked salmon (Iwana and Yamame). We were fishing 700m-1000m above sea level in the cold mountain river 7-8C water temps. Even though the water is crystal clear when we try to spot fish we can’t sight them but prospecting some sz10-12 mayfly dry and small back nymphs did the trick. Here the trophy size are over 30cm which are small compared to where I normally fish in NZ. We spent a good couple of days looking for bigger size char and at least we caught one over 30cm as well as being broken off by something bigger.
