Matt Hince and I shot up to Turangi for the weekend, Otamangakau was fishing terrible, so we focused more on the photo opportunities this magnificent, high altitude oasis has to offer! Luckily the Tongariro is stacked with fish at present, Matt and I landing 20 odd in quick succession on Saturday afternoon to relieve the lake boredom, mostly sight fished from the shallow runs on 6wt Radians, Lamson Guru’s and micro indicators setups. Some real nice, fresh fish among them as well. This is definitely the best time of the year to fish the central North Island rivers…you snooze…you lose!
