Why go on a Hosted Trip? | Angus Line from Fly Fishing Outfitters

What is the advantage of a hosted trip, versus D.I.Y?
A hosted trip gives you the advantage of going with a someone that has prior experience at the destination. This is a great way to speed up your knowledge on the area and get the best chance at capturing your target species for the trip. We regularly fish and host trips to the Cocos Keeling Islands, a world class destination for bonefish, triggers, bumpies, GT’s,bluefin trevally….the list goes on.

Your top tips leading up to a hosted saltwater trip?
Make sure all of your gear is in top shape before the trip. The last thing anybody wants after investing money and time into a trip is to finally hook that dream fish and then lose it to a simple gear failure.

Must have apparel/gear for long days on the flats/skiff?
Quality sun protection gear is a non-negotiable, when spending long periods of time on a
skiff or the flats. Bad sun burn can ruin a trip on the first day. I always suggest wearing a
Simms Solarflex hoodie, Sun Gaiter, Sun Gloves and any of the awesome Simms caps whenever we step onto the flats. Your fishing experience will be much better for it. A pair of comfortable flats sneakers like the Simms 2025 Flats Sneaker are a must when walking for long periods of time over sand, rock and reef.

What combo have you been enjoying on the flats this season?
I’ve been using my Scott Sector 848/4 paired with a Lamson Litespeed M8 and Airflo Flats Master line lately. This has been a phenomenal setup to carry all day on the flats. The accuracy of the short Scott blank paired with the super lightweight, large arbour reel makes it an ideal setup for me.

Most memorable moment from a hosted trip?
I have too many to list, but the memories that always stand out to me, are seeing our
customers catch the first of their target species for a trip. It’s a great reminder why we all got into fly, the pursuit of your dream capture coming to reality is a wicked high.
