Our flyfishing friends in QLD need your help.
The QLD Government is trialling äóìtunnel netsäó as new commercial fishing gear in QLDäó»s Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
Itäó»s a fly fishersäó» nightmare.
Mesh wings stretching up to 1.6km long. Used exclusively on coastal sandflats. Able to catch over 6000 fish, weighing over 2 tonnes, in a single deployment.
And during the trials, over 30% of the catch (by weight) were iconic flats species, including Giant Trevally, Golden Trevally and Permit.
These are fish that draw anglers from around the world, and that local anglers, local guides and local businesses depend upon.
Thatäó»s where The Inshore Flats Projec t comes in. A collective of passionate anglers, fishing guides, local businesses, scientists, fish biologists, writers, and filmmakers, who have come together to raise awareness about the tunnel net threat.
