Primal RAW CCC Fly Fishing Rod | Review
Nathan Walker knows fly fishing. You don't get to work in a large store without some knowledge, lucky for any customers at BOSS Outdoor Canberra, old mate Nathan knows a heck of a lot. Have a read below of what he thought about the new Primal RAW CCC
My first impression of the new Primal CCC RAW fly rod is the big step up in power that the Compressed Carbon Chain technology brings to the rod. It’s a bloody good looking stick too! Something about the way the blank looks with the CCC tech – it really screams power.
In action, the rod really impressed on me just how much power it really does have. The original Primal RAW was an on water beast, but now Primal have stepped it up to another level with CCC. With great power comes great control and the CCC version springs back instantly with zero tip wobble. The stable rod tip provides excellent rod tip tracking allowing you to have complete control and it greatly improves your accuracy when casting. It is very fast to throw some very tight loops and protect any light tippet, especially important when fishing with nymphs or other small flies.
You can tell that a lot of thought has gone in to every element of this rod. Primal are well known for spending loads of time in the design phase and definitely in the testing phase too. The end result is testament to that fact. Take the grip, its moulded to your hand perfectly which then creates an exceptionally sensitive feel to the whole rod. The extra sensitivity makes it easier to detect subtle takes, which means you will actually catch more fish…and that’s really what it’s all about, right?
Another great feature is the versatility that the RAW CCC brings to the river. I found it equally at home casting large streamers as it was at casting tiny dries. The power in the RAW CCC meant I could punch large flies into strong headwinds and yet still delicately and accurately land dries in front of a hungry brown.
At a recent BOSS Canberra casting and demo day we put a bunch of CCC RAW’s into punters hands alongside the OG version. Folks had the same opinion, the original is great, but the new CCC is fantastic. The price point of the RAW CCC was a big surprise as most thought they were casting high end US made rods – and expected the same price tag. These new RAW CCC’s are a high performance, premium rod, but you wont have to break the bank to get one.
The Primal RAW CCC fly rod is a great option for anglers of all skill levels who are looking for a high-performance rod. It is a versatile rod that can be used to fish a variety of fly patterns and line weights.
Overall, the Primal RAW CCC is a high performance fly rod and an excellent price. It is a great option for anglers of all skill levels, from beginners to experts – but it’s perfect if you want to get the best performance to cost ratio compared to anything else on the market. Plus, with Primal’s market leading warranty service. you will be totally impressed.
