Murray Cod on the Primal Blitz CS 8ft 8wt
We caught up with Jack Porter to hear his thoughts on the new Primal Blitz CS 8ft 8wt.
Some of you may know Jack from his fly tying account @porters_flies, where he showcases some of his super tidy bucktail and deerhair creations. Jack specialises in flies tied for Aussie natives like barramundi, bass, saratoga, sooty grunter and murray cod, so who better to give us an insight on a rod that was designed with all these species in mind.
“The Primal Blitz CS 8ft 8wt is a super fun rod to fish and is incredibly light in hand and crisp. Most of my cod fishing is done from a kayak, so the shorter 8ft length is a huge advantage as it offers better manoeuvrability as the fight comes to an end and you’re trying to slide a fish into the net. There’s plenty of power down low, to drag these fish out of the timber.
This little beauty can still punch out a solid cast, at times you forget it’s an 8ft rod, as opposed to the standard 9ft. Most of my cod flies are quite bulky, from large deerhair Dahlberg divers to a range of 4”+ bucktail patterns, but the rod handles them with ease. It’s great to see a high performing 8ft rod, at such a reasonable price, that does everything I want”.
