Lubin Pfeiffer - Mr Full Scale Fishing Adventures

Lubin Pfeiffer Angler

Lubin, youve built an impressive following on Youtube. What kicked off The Full Scale Fishing Adventures - was there a moment you thought, I reckon Ill chuck this on YouTube”?

The Full Scale Fishing Adventures started after Big Angry Fish ended, I had been doing a lot of fishing media stuff and rather than go back to being an electrician I thought it would be worth a shot. This was my first personal project and I was very fortunate to have some great sponsors see the potential which funded the show for me to keep going with fishing media as a full time job.

Youve fished all over — is there one species or location that gets you more fired up than any other? What is it about that fish/location that does it for you?

That is a tough question! I’m one that very much loves the variety of fishing an being able to switch it up after I’ve had my fill chasing a particular species. The one thing that does keep me coming back and fishing and camping in the cold is wild giant Murray cod on topwater lures. It would be on of the most amazing sights in fishing seeing such a large fish eat a topwater in such spectacular fashion as they do and the fact that it is something that is so hard to obtain means that it always presents that epic challenge which is something I thrive on. These fish live in beautiful rivers full of amazing wildlife and it is truly unique to the world.

Is there one bit of gear youd never leave home without - the kind of thing thats always in the kit, no matter where youre heading?

No question, it would be my Simms ProDry jacket. It doesn’t matter what species I’m chasing or where I’m found in the world I will always have that jacket with me. When Mum always used to say “make sure you take a jacket with you!” She was right because there’s nothing like having the confidence to know you’ll be protected regardless of what you’re doing and this makes concentrating on just trying to catch the fish so much easier.

For young fishos keen to follow in your footsteps, whats one bit of advice you reckon they need to hear, that maybe no one tells you at the start?

Value yourself and what you do. Also treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself, that also includes the fish you are catching.

Youre skilled as both a fly angler and a conventional angler. Is there a crossover in skillset here? I.e. does your conventional fishing ability make you a better fly anger?

Absolutely. I think having an understanding of all types of fishing makes you realise that everything is relative in fishing and its the core skill set that will make a huge difference regardless of whether you are holding a fly rod or on conventional tackle. Things like good contact, reading the water or knowing where to look for good areas to find bait or fishing holding water are all the same irrespective of the technique. Time on the water is key to regular success and that can come in many forms.
