Airflo Premium Tippet | Pro Review
Looking for new tippet? Look no further. Check out this pro review on Airflo Premium Tippet. Chris Schrueder from Wilderness Fly Fishing talks tippet.
Top strength / diameter ratio
Airflo Premium Fluorocarbon is manufactured in Japan and is exceptionally strong for it’s size. This means that when I am trying to achieve those drag free drifts, be it on a dry fly to tricky mayfly feeders or on my Euro nymphing set up in conflicting currents, I am confident the fly is going to behave like I want it to.
Quick identification colour coded bands
Each tippet spool has a different coloured rubberised band around the fluorocarbon allowing for easy id for those of us who find it increasingly difficult to read small text. For example, if I am out on the river and I want to extend the leader with some 4X, I just grab the orange. The other cool thing with these bands is that they don't go saggy and release tippet all over the place like some others.
Recycled spools
Fly fishers need healthy fish to catch and fish need healthy waterways to live. airflo has reduced its plastic use by putting it’s tippet on recycled spools which is to be commended.
Knot strength
The knot strength is great, just practice tying your knots properly and lubricate them before cinching them down. Remember to test your knots. Always. Every time.
Abrasion resistance
One of the main advantages of fluorocarbon is it’s abrasion resistance. Nicks in the tippet can mean losing the fish of a lifetime for myself or my client, so the more I can do to avoid this the better for everyone (and less tears).
airflo Premium Fluorocarbon is a great new addition to the airflo line up.
It’s strong, it’s good :)
