Fly Fishing New Zealand - Kahikatea GOLD!

Dan and I use our pack-rafts to push up into some lowland swamps where my dad used to take me fishing as a kid. Great to revisit this place after more than 30 years.
The peat-stained water swelled by recent rain and fringed by the magnificent native Kahikatea tree or "White Pine". The Kahikatea and red spotted, golden browns can often be found together and we we’re not disappointed in this fishery, losing count of how many landed and in often testing weather conditions, it was certainly a few days to remember.
Mid way through the clip you can see just how carnivorous brown trout really are with a 20+cm native “Giant Kokopu" (Native Trout) falling pray to a large brown marauding the flats merely meters in front of us.
