The Magic of Murray Cod

Gus Lapin, travelling fisho extraordinaire, took some time to pen a moment in history where he was actually on his home turf fishing for a change. Have a read about him and his old mate Cam Forsman having a go at the capturing some Murray Magic.

Murray Cod are getting quite the name for themselves recently, so we thought we would put aside a few days to head up north of Melbourne and see what all the fuss was about. An experience we’ll remember for some time. The week consisted of heat, dust, Australian wildlife and importantly a few small fish to the bank.

A new fishery for Cam and myself, we were challenged and embraced the fact that we were indeed novices once again. A 9wt Scott Sector each would be the weapon for the day and feeling the full force of even a 30cm Murray Cod smashing one of our Snapper Bunnies, has us salivating for more.

Fair to say we’ll be back again and again and again…

Undercut banks and an abundance of snags, perfect Murray Cod dwelling.

Diving for snagged flies, one of Cams favourite activities

Like a hot knife through butter, the Simms Guide Plier made quick work of our heavier Trouthunter tippet.
