Taupo Fishing Report - 14th October 2011

By Rene Vaz 10/12/2011

Some terrific harling to be had out on the great lake this week, lots of reports this week of some very good fishing very early in the morning, it did not seem to matter where you were, Acacia Bay, Kinloch, Whareweka , Whakaipo , Lake Front , Two Mile and Three Mile bays as long as you were there and fishing on day break the fishing has been excellent it starts to get noticeably harder as the day progresses and by 9am it starts to slow down .
The fish were not really particular about the flies either all the favourites seem to be working during that magic period , Parsons Glory, Yellow Lady, Green Orbit and Ginger Mick, top lures to use as a chaser would be the Fluo Orange and Black striped Cobra, Spotty Gold and Baby Brown Cobras .
The downriggers have been finding a few fish as well, with the fishing just a little harder during the middle of the day, top lures for this week have been the Yellow and Green Cobras along with Orange and Gold, Spotty Gold, Baby Brown and Red and Gold King Cobra .
Fish size and quality has made a noticeable improvement this week according to our local charter operators with good amounts of smelt being found in the fish.
Local Fly fishing once again had a little lift with more rain arriving midweek most anglers fishing the local rivers have been pleased with their results.
Most rivers had some fish go through, the T.T was in good form this week with reports of some good quality fish being caught on the wet line early mornings using small Olive Woolly Buggers.
The Tongariro continues to be consistent through the highs and lows with reasonable numbers of fish going through spasmodically through the week.
Small naturals have been the way to go for most anglers as the rivers have not really had enough water to colour them up yet.
We have some unsettled weather forecast for the weekend, so be ready to roll out as the late runs we have been waiting for seem to happening now.
Also consider that the local rivers won’t be so busy now as a lot of anglers will be going backcountry just as our runs are in full flow so get out there and enjoy the fishing in our stunning Taupo outdoors.
Tight lines till next week
