Rod and Reel in Newmarket are holding a Saltwater Fly Fishing night along with the crew from New Zealand Fishing News. Manic will be sponsoring the event so we'll be there hanging out and trying to think of annoying questions to ask the guest speakers.
Here's the drill:
Topic: Saltwater Fly Fishing in New Zealand and Abroad
Where: Rod and Reel 480D Broadway, Newmarket
Time: 7pm
Date: Thursday the 20th of October
Cost: Nothing, if you're well behaved you might even get a drink or two
The stars. Mark Kitteridge, Brett Petterson and John Eichlesheim of NZ Fishing News will be the main entertainment having just returned from their first Bone Fishing Adventures trip to Aitutaki. These guys have done a stack of saltwater fly fishing around NZ and offshore and have a lot of knowledge to share. Yoshi is also promising to tie a few saltwater flies with a bunch of new materials.

To put it simply Mark Kitteridge is one of the countries best all round anglers, he's caught everything from monster yellowfin and record king fish on fly so we are certainly looking forward to hearing him share his expertise.

Brett is one of the big cheeses and NZ Fishing news he's a super good angler and although he looks a little surprised in this shot he's caught a bunch of great bonefish.

John Eichelsheim is another experienced all round angler and traveller having fly fishign extensively throughout NZ, Australia and the Pacific.

Hatch Fly Reels make a Cameo on the new series of Two and a Half Men. Ok so we'll probably see this episode here in 2012 but here is a screen shot of Ashton Kutchers lap top screen on Two and a Half Men. Nice to see the Hatch sticker making an appearance. Our unreliable sources tell us that Ashton is a keen fly fisherman.

I've just got back from a family holiday in Cairns, whilst i was away I managed to slip away for a day to fish the Hinchinbrook area with Dave Bradley of Australian Fly Fishing Outfitters.
Here are a couple of pics from our day out.

Baramundi are probably Australia's #1 sportfish and rightly so they are a great fly species and although I'm no expert on them by any means from what I've been told and what I experienced Hinchinbrook is a great place to target them in good numbers.

By Giant Trevally standards these werent big fish but hooking them amoungst the mangroves certainly put our tackle to the test.
